YEREVAN, May 11 – Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) rejected Azeri sponsored resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement which is at variance with “Madrid principles”, the Union of Armenian Associations of Sweden informs.
The resolution introduced last year by Mehmet Kaplan of Green Party, called for Sweden`s active involvement in Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process demanding “immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all Armenian military forces from occupied Azeri territory”. It also suggested the international organizations to act as a “guarantor of safety, security and self-rule of Armenian minority in Nagorno Karabakh within the territorial boundaries of Azerbaijan”.
Instead, the Swedish Parliament adopted another resolution, which reads: “The Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict needs a peaceful resolution and there is a mechanism to handle the issue. This is the responsibility of the Minsk Group. The Committee supports the efforts which are ongoing within the framework of OSCE.”
