YEREVAN, July 2–The authorities of South Korea attach great importance to expansion of diverse relations with Armenia, said the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Armenia, Lee Kyu Hyung at his meeting with Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. The ambassador submitted his credentials to President Serge Sarkisian on Thursday.

“During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning the Armenian-Korean political dialogue, trade and economic relations as well as cultural exchanges and cooperation in international organizations,” a press statement from the Armenian Foreign Ministry read.

Congratulating the newly appointed Ambassador, Nalbandian expressed hope that he will make an important contribution to developing the friendly cooperation between Armenia and South Korea .

Nalbandian noted that bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary relations between two countries wereintensified in recent years .

The foreign ministry press service noted that 70 Armenian government officials were trained in South Korea through a program carried out under the patronage of the Agency for International Cooperation of Korea. There are also prerequisites for strengthening economic cooperation and intensifying cultural exchanges.

Nalbandian and Hyung attached importance to the consultations between foreign ministries of both countries.

Lee Kyu Hyung presented Nalbandian with news about the latest events on the Korean peninsula, a worsening situation due to the sinking of a South Korean war ship in March.

Nalbandian expressed his condolences over the tragedy that took the lives of 46 soldiers. He expressed concern about the deteriorating situation in the region and hope that the international community’s efforts will lead to resolving the situation in the region.
