YEREVAN (ARKA),  June 8–Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian is sure that the National Assembly will adopt the package of pension reforms on the first reading.

President Serge Sarkisian held a workshop on Friday in which he underlined the need to discuss the concept of pension reforms with various groups of society, including working groups and students.

“Today we tried to present these issues and throughout the debate, it became clear that the concept of those explanations, additions and changes that we have done with our colleagues in the National Assembly already provides a reasonable basis for us to approve the package in first reading,” Sarkisian said on Friday in an interview with Armenian Public Television.

In this regard, the prime minister noted that the development of a new pension reform program will require a lot of time and serious commitment with the assistance of the World Bank, USAID and other donors to build these infrastructures.

According to Sarkisian, these undertakings have quite efficiently been implemented due to the assistance from the World Bank.

The new pension system will be implemented in Armenia beginning in 2011. The reforms will involve the transition to multi-layer pension system, which will consist of two main components–the public distribution and private multi-funded pension system.
