Winners of Kangaroo Math Contest Awarded in Yerevan

Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia and Yerevan’s City Hall were present at the ceremony.

“The representatives of the Foundation have already awarded prizes and diplomas to about 1,500 students from 31 cities of the republic.

This year, 39,341 pupils from 902 schools from all the regions of Armenia took part in the competition, and 1,452 of them were awarded.

The representatives of Ayb Educational Foundation also set up a number of incentive prizes for those who were close to victory, but didn’t reach it, and special prizes for the best participant from each school. Every school participating had at least one prize-winner.

Last year, the competition was held for the first time in Armenia, and more than 36,000 pupils from 570 schools took part in it.

Kangaroo is a competition that consists of logical and intriguing problems. It is held every year on the same day in 50 countries around the world, with more than 5 million pupils taking part in it.

All the pupils from grades 3 to 11, regardless of their math skills and academic progress, can take part in the competition, because the most important thing is the desire to have a new look at mathematics and try their hand. The main purpose of the contest is to instill love of mathematics amongst pupils.

The first Mathematical Kangaroo contest took place in Paris in 1991, and since 1994 it has been an international competition.
