Zatulin: Karabakh Should Gain Independence in Exchange for Territories

YEREVAN (Tert.am), May 27–”I do not believe that Azerbaijan will choose the way of military revenge. Economic growth is being registered in Azerbaijan, and military operations are the most unproductive means of investments. That’s why I look at it as a bluff typical to the Caucausus,” Konstantin Zatulin, deputy of the Russian State Duma said.
The Situation in Caucasus and Prospects of Regional Security” conference is being held in Yerevan on Zatulin’s initiative.
According to him, although current Azerbaijani leaders stand out in their rhetoric, there are still some hopes that they will not overstep the limits.
He also mentioned that countries included in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict (Russia, US and France), should take a common position and the solution of the problem must be based on mutual concessions (i.e., Karabakh will gain independence in exchange for territories.
It’s worth mentioning that during the conference Zatulin said that they have created necessary the conditions for all the countries of the region, but the Azerbaijani representative did not arrive.
The conference was attended by representatives from Armenia, Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Turkey and Canada. The core problems discussed during the conference were the settlement of the Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Turkish relations.
