“In recent years, Armenia was able to expand and develop international cooperation in environmental protection. However, the question of preserving natural resources in the South Caucasus region is still relevant,” said Eberer on Saturday at a press conference.

In this context Eberer introduced a recently launched program which is aimed at raising public awareness in Armenia in the sphere of natural reservoirs, particularly rivers and streams.

According to him, about 120 teachers of Armenian schools, retrained under the program, are currently actively practicing the covered material and arranging tours for schoolchildren. Eberer highlighted the significance of the immediate connection of children to nature, water and inhabitants of water.

“The presence of some representatives of ichthyofauna in reservoirs is an indicator of the ecological state of a particular reservoir,” he said. Erbera added that GTZ has initiated a contest for schoolchildren in the country. The aim of the contest is to investigate natural reservoirs. More than 70-80 classes of Armenian schools are participating in the contest.

The results of the contest will be announced on September 18, World Water Day.
