YEREVAN (Novosti-Armenia), May 23–The updated Red List of rare species of the Armenian flora and fauna will be released in Autumn, Tatyana Danielian, head of the biodiversity department at the Armenian Environment Protection Ministry, informed.
“Preparatory work of the two-volume Red List of rare species of the Armenian flora and fauna is in its closing stage, it requires just a little technical improvement.”–Danielian said on Saturday during the press conference in the international press center “Novosti.”
The latest Armenian Red List was published ten years ago, in 1990.
According to Danielian, 452 rare plant species (367 in the latest one) are included in the new Red List. The number of rare mushroom species, which were not included in the previous list, is 40 in the new one.
The number of endangered animal species has also increased.
According to Danielian, the evident increase in the number of flora and fauna species is explained by several factors, among them the baneful human influence on the surrounding and also new international study standards used for the release of the Red List.
