Sarkisian Pays Visit to Artsakh

STEPANAKERT, August 30–The President of Armenia Serge Sarkisian paid a visit to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) during the weekend.
In Stepanakert, Sarkisian met Nagorno Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan, Chairman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic National Assembly Ashot Gulyan, and other officials. The details regarding the nature of the visit were not immediately known, but it is believed the visit coincides with the upcoming anniversary of the proclamation of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
On September 2, 1991 a joint session of the Artsakh Regional Council and the Council of People’s Deputies Shahumian declared the region independent.
Sarkisian also visited a number of educational institutions in Artsakh on Sunday. Accompanied by Sahakyan, he visited the new Stepanakert High School building and got acquainted with the conditions of the school.
The presidents of Armenia and Artsakh also visited the Center for Children and Youth Creativity of Stepanakert, where he visited several classrooms and workshops and talked with the children.
