Mar 22nd, 2010 | Category: PoliticsYEREVAN (Novosti Armenia), March 22 – Turkey will sooner or later confront the need to recognize the historical fact of the Armenian genocide, said Artak Davtian, the chairman of the standing committee on science, education, culture, youth and sports and a member of the faction of the Armenian Republican Party.
“Turkey is sure to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Turkey, as a modern state or a member of the EU, cannot exist without recognizing the genocide of the Armenians, without implementing the slogan put forward by Turkey itself, ‘No problems with neighbors.’” Davtian said during a press conference on in the National Press Club on Monday.
Davtian also mentioned that the governments and states that recognize the genocide primarily protect their own values, and that is why the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the whole world will continue in the near future.
“I think that the logical completion of this process will be that Turkish society should gradually be prepared to meet face to face with their past,” he said.
On March 4 the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee adopted the Armenian Genocide resolution H.Res. 252. On March 11, the Armenian Genocide was also recognized by the Swedish Parliament.
