Armenia and Iran Working on Treaty of Free Trade
Mar 17th, 2010 | Category: Economy, Featured NewsYEREVAN (Novosti Armenia), March 17 – Armenia and Iran are working on a treaty of free trade, Robert Harutyunyan, the director general of the Armenian Development Agency, reported on Tuesday.
According to him, during the meeting of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission, which took place in Yerevan in January, the two Ministries of Economy were instructed to prepare the text of the agreement on free trade within six months.
“This is very important, as the main problem of entering the Iranian market are the tariff differences,” Harutyunyan said during the press conference in the international press center “Novosti.” According to him the export of goods to the Iranian market does not require expenditure of time, and this opportunity should not be missed.
“It’s still difficult to say whether there will be any limitations on the list of exported goods. This question is still under discussion,” he said.
Harutyunyan then added that the problem of cargo transportation also requires a solution. “Iranian vehicles have the opportunity to cross the border, get unloaded and reloaded in the territory of Armenia, but Armenian vehicles have several difficulties in crossing the Iranian border,” he said.
