YEREVAN, August 25– The legend of Armenian stage and screen Vladimir Msryan died on Tuesday at the age of 72.

Msryan was reported to have been suffering from leukemia and died at the hospital. He underwent heart surgery five years ago.

Armen Khandikyan, artistic director of the Yerevan State Drama Theater, whose leading actor for over 40 years was Msryan, in an interview with Radio Liberty said, “He was our confederate for almost 43 years, was one of the founders of the Dramatical Theater, one of its strongest pillars, was my friend and a unique person … I am convinced that no one will ever be able to replace him, such people are simply irreplaceable.”

One of the most famous Armenians of modern times, Vladimir Msryan was born on March 12, 1938 in Vladikavkaz. In 1958-1962 he studied at the Theater Institute in Yerevan. In 1963-1964 he worked at the Theater of Young Spectators. In the following two years he worked at the Yerevan Stanislavsky Russian State Dramatical Theater, and then in 1966 at the Yerevan Dramatical Theater, where he shined in the roles of Julius Caesar, Hamlet and Herostratus.

In addition to his stage performances, Msryan starred in 19 films. His most famous film is “Niccolo Paganini” from 1982, in which he played the renown composer of the same name.

The farewell to the famous Armenian actor will take place on August 27, at 12:00-2:00 pm in the Yerevan Ghaplanyan Dramatical Theater. Msryan will be laid to rest at the Yerevan Komitas Pantheon.
