The president discussed the prospects of Armenias European integration Sarkisian Discusses Prospects of Armenias European IntegrationYEREVAN (Novosti-Armenia), March 4—Armenian President Serge Sarkisian at the meeting held on Wednesday with a delegation headed by the President of the European People’s Party, Wilfried Martens, discussed the prospects of Armenia’s European integration.

President Sarkisian also highlighted the importance of the visit of the senior officials and said that such visits open new horizons to the way of European integration.

“We see ourselves as Europeans, we are trying to live by their rules and values. Considering all this our direction is quite clear,” said the president.

President Sarkisian also congratulated the President of the European People’s Party with the entry into the Treaty of Lisbon.

“As it has already been pointed out before, this opens new opportunities for the European Parliament and in general enhances the role of Europe,” he said.

In turn, Martens noted that the three parties forming the main political coalition of Armenia — the Republican Party, Prosperous Armenia and Rule of Law — wanted to join the European People’s Party.

Martens noted that Armenia is a European country, a member of the Council of Europe and included in the program of the EU’s “Eastern Partnership.”

The two sides also discussed the matter of regional developments and the process of the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
