Armenian Parliamentarians To Participate in Discussion Of Genocide Bill

YEREVAN (Novosti-Armenia), March 04—On Wednesday, the delegation of the Armenian parliament left for Washington to take part in the discussion of the Armenian Genocide bill in Congress, reports Armenian Public TV.

Members of the Republican Party of Armenia faction Artak Zakaryan and Koryun Nahapetyan and the head of the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun faction, Vahan Hovhannesyan, went to Washington.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee is scheduled to discuss the resolution on the Armenian Genocide today.

The Armenian Genocide is considered to be the first genocide of the 20th century. Turkey continues to reject the charge of mass killings of 1.5 million Armenians during the years of World War I.

The Armenian Genocide has been recognized by many countries, including Uruguay, Russia, France and Lithuania. It was recognized by the Lower Chamber of Italy, the majority of US states, the Parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium and Wales, by the National Council of Switzerland, the House of Commons of Canada and the Seym of Poland.
