YEREVAN (Novosti-Armenia)–Beginning this year, the headmasters of all Armenian schools will be required to pass obligatory certification to determine if they fit their positions. The decision was announced by the Armenian Minister of Education and Science, Armen Ashotyan, at a press conference on Friday.
He said that there are serious problems with the quality of management in Armenia’s education sphere.
“We hope that obligatory certification will help us to use our administrative resources more effectively and to optimise the education system,” Ashotyan said.
The minister also noted that there are headmasters whose arbitrariness has a very negative influence on the quality of their school’s working process.
“We think that putting this new system of certification into operation is the cornerstone of our management system reforms,” he said. “We will do our best to exclude the involvement of ‘relatives and acquaintances’ into this process. Though the complete exclusion of this kind of thing is unreal.”
