YEREVAN (A1 Plus), February 17–”Help people suffering from an earthquake in Haiti!”
The sentence could be heard in Yerevan streets today.
Four groups of young people today held a charity drive in downtown Yerevan. They went up to passers-by with a request to help Haitians.
“There were people who gave us 1000 dram,” the volunteers of Armenian Red Cross told A1+.
Seeing the young people a beggar came up to the group and asked for money. After knowing the aim of the action, she handed out 20 dram saying, “I was given the coin minutes ago, take it if it can be helpful.”
The volunteers are determined to continue the fund drive until they collect a sizable sum to send to Haiti.
On January 12, the Armenian Red Cross launched a campaign to help Haitians. Ordinary citizens are welcome to hold a hand to Haiti by sending an SMS to 3009. The cost of each SMS is 500 dram.
The Armenian Government has allotted $100,000 to Haiti.
