YEREVAN, August 13 — August 12 will definitely be marked as one of the most impressive and greatest days on the calendars of numerous Armenian rock lovers.

World-renowned rock-musician and frontman of System of a Down Serj Tankian finally rocked Yerevan on Thursday night. The concert was held at Yerevan Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex.

The concert had gathered together thousands of rock lovers in a crowded hall who had come to enjoy exhilarating music. The rock band VIZA was invited as a special guest opened the concert. Then Tankian, his band musicians and the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra performed. Works from Tankian’s old and new albums as well as syntheses of rock and classical music were performed.

In accordance with the vocalist’s character, System of a Down’s art mainly involves black, purple and red colors. But yesterday’s concert was more in bright colors, mostly blue and green.

Tankian also performed a new song in Armenian.  According to him, he was inspired to create that song by a book on the Armenian Genocide.

The concert was initiated by Fugitive Studios and Deem Communications. The general sponsor of Tankian’s Armenian concert was VivaCell-MTS.

At the press conference held earlier in the day Tankian stated, “I will by all means visit Tsitsernakaberd.” Then referring to Hillary Clinton’s unofficial visit to Armenia Tankian said as a joke, “Hillary Clinton herself advised me to visit the Genocide memorial not as a musician, but as a man.”

Tankian still doesn’t have any ideas on the coming 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. According to him, it’s still too early to talk about that. “The 100th anniversary will be in 2015 and it’s difficult to say where I will be, what will be doing or how will be referring to it in five years. But it’s a good idea, so I will definitely consider it,” Tankian said.

This was Serj Tankian’s third visit to Armenia. And as he said, “I feel like home in Armenia. It’s very interesting and beautiful here despite the heat.”
