YEREVAN (ARKA), February 16 — Mark Lewis, who headed an IMF delegation’s visit to Armenia, said in an interview with a local daily Kapital that Armenia possesses certain advantages in hi-tech sector. He said the IMF does not have a concrete analysis of Armenian IT industry, but one can say that its share in the overall GDP is little.
“We hope that in a mid-term perspective IT’s share may increase, but I would like to repeat–it is too little now,” he said.
According to a report by the Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF), Armenian IT’s share in the GDP of 2009 was 1.1 percent, compared with 1.4 percent of India and 1.3 percent of Germany. According to the report, the software and services segment grew by 27 percent over the last decade.
