Armenian Girl Found Dead in TurkeyBy Adonia Agayan

YEREVAN, August 9 — The body of a 29-year-old citizen of Armenia, Ann Davtyan, was found in Turkey yesterday.

Davtyan, who lived in Dubai with her husband, disappeared on July 17 in Turkey. She had been on vacation in Antalya with her friend.

According to the Turkish Sabah newspaper, Ann wanted to leave Antalya and go back to Dubai after having been there two days. On July 17 under very strange circumstances she disappeared from the hotel where her friend left her.

Davtyan’s dead body was found in the channel near Trapison, in Ankara. It showed obvious signs of torture. Ann’s mother, Karina Davtyan, who had left for Istanbul with the sole purpose of finding her daughter identified the body.

Previously, she had noted that her daughter was in her sixth month of pregnancy. She also feared that her daughter might have been kidnapped.

There were some problems concerning the transfer of the girl’s body since it was beyond recognition. The relatives are waiting for the results of a DNA analysis.

Another problem related to the case is that Armenia and Turkey do not have diplomatic relations.

Tigran Balayan, the press secretary of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that everything would be done to transfer the young girl’s body to Armenia as soon as possible.
