YEREVAN, August 6–The Japanese Toshiba Corporation is opening an official representative office in Armenia and intends to take more than 15 percent of the Armenian computer market, according to Igor Snytko, the Toshiba Regional General Manager of CIS and Baltic countries.

“We can see that the Armenian market is empty. For the last few years in spite of the financial crisis the Armenian IT market has undergone rapid developments… We want to become one of the leaders of this market, taking up more than 15 percent of it.” Snytko said during a press conference held on August 5.

The Toshiba Europe Manager for Central Asia and Caucasus Igor Zhitskiy also noticed the positive changes in the Armenian IT market. He mentioned that for the last two years a sudden upward jump has been registered in the computer market of Armenia. According to him certain competition is noticed in all IT spheres and if there is competition, it means there is a need.

Snytko also mentioned the activities of the Toshiba Corporation in Armenia have been practically zero and that there was no point in their activities. Now they are planning to focus on building a system of clear distribution, developing methods of working with different segments of the market and establishing cooperative relations.

Ucom, the Armenian telecommunications provider, is Toshiba’s official partner in Armenia. They have already started implementing a joint venture that allow Ucom clients to get the latest notebooks in European production in installments. Customers will be able to get super high-speed Toshiba notebooks equipped with Intel and AMD processors.

Snytko also mentioned that it’s still difficult to forecast how their program will work, but  success is expected.
