YEREVAN, July 30– On August 5, the delegation headed by Deputy Culture Minister Arev Samuelyan, will arrive in Tbilisi to discuss further work on the restoration of St. Gevorg Church.
The domed church of St. Gevorg Mugnetsots in Tbilisi was built in 1356 and collapsed on the night of November 19, 2009. In this regard, the Supreme Spiritual Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church and a number of NGOs (non-governmental organizations) sharply criticized the inaction of the Georgian authorities.
On July 26, the National Agency for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage of Georgia notified in writing the Ministry of Culture of Armenia that preliminary investigations are carried out for reconstructing the church.
According to the report, the survey of the area is completed and the studies of engineering-geological conditions are being carried out at present.
