Hovik Abrahamyan Elected Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly

YEREVAN, May 31 — Representative of ruling Republican Party of Armenia, ex-speaker Hovik Abrahamyan was elected by 102 votes the Chairman of the National Assembly of the 5th convocation. 4 MPs were against and 4 ballots were recognized invalid.
Abrahamyan thanked the Armenian President, RPA and all the MPs for retaining confidence. The candidacy of the new speaker was offered during the session of executive body of RA.
«I`m sure there is a potential which will help us to implement all our programs, to follow the path of parlamentarism and to justify the expectancies of our people», said Abrahamyan.
Representatives of ruling Republican Party Eduard Sharmazanov and Hermine Naghdalian were elected Vice-speakers of the Armenian Parliament.
Lawmakers of opposition Armenian National Congress and Heritage Party haven`t participated in the first session of newly elected parliament. ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary group boycotted the elections of speaker.
