Armenian TV Channel To Open In Russia

YEREVAN (Novosti-Armenia), February 2–The first Armenian entertainment television broadcast channel, known as TV Armenia RU, will go on the air in Russia beginning September 1, 2010.

As the official site of TV Armenia RU states, the global purpose of the channel is to cover the social, cultural, political and economic life of Armenians living in Armenia, Russia and other countries. The channel also aims to create a single information bridge that will unite the interests of Armenians all over the world.

“This television channel should cultivate in the growing generation of Armenians… which managed to keep its rich culture, language, beliefs, wise traditions and the homeland that became independent, despite of all the centuries-old persecutions, losses and the Genocide. Thanks to its cheerfulness, optimism, sense of humor and diligence, this nation managed to overcome all the difficulties,” a statement read on the channel’s web site.

The channel plans to broadcast news and social, religious, entertainment and music programs. Documentary, informative and analytical programs will also be included in the list of the channel’s programs.

According to the information cited on the TV Armenia RU web site, out of the total population of Russia, which stands at 143 million, 2.5 percent is Armenian.
